Head of Engineering
Lead the engineering function as it scales from a small founding team to the scaled organisation the platform will require.
Compensation: £110,000 to £140,000 base, plus equity
About the Role
This is the role that owns the engineering organisation as a system: the team's composition, the technical culture, the standard of work, the architectural direction, and the relationship between engineering and the rest of the firm. The successful candidate will be a player-coach for the first phase, evolving into a more dedicated leadership posture as the team scales.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering function across the full platform, both the Drusus product and the Gravenos corporate infrastructure.
- Own the technical culture: the engineering standard, the review process, the architectural decisions of consequence, and the team's posture towards quality and trade-offs.
- Lead the hiring of the engineering team as it scales; calibrate the interview process.
- Set the technical direction in collaboration with the founding team.
- Continue to contribute meaningful engineering work directly in the early phase.
What We Are Looking For
- Ten or more years of engineering experience, with at least three years of substantial engineering leadership at a startup or scaleup.
- Demonstrated capability across the engineering disciplines the platform requires (frontend, backend, infrastructure).
- A philosophy of engineering leadership that values craft, calm, and the deliberate over the heroic.
- Strong written communication; comfortable with the analytical register the rest of the firm operates in.
Helpful but Not Required
- Prior leadership at a fintech, financial data company, or analytical-product company.
- Experience leading engineering through Series A and B funding rounds.
